Just got back from seeing the film "The Young Victoria". If I had to give one word to describe it, it would be Beautiful. Because it was. Emily Blunt is stunning in every single dress, and a fabulous actress. I've always liked her and have been dying to see her play a lead role and this was perfect. I loved every minute of it. Rupert Friend as Prince Albert is wonderful and the two work amazingly together. I wanted to see the film a second time right away ... just fastforwarding to the part where Victoria and Albert marry. But really, the whole film is gorgeous. The cinematograpahy is great; there are some fabulous shots in the grounds of Buckingham palace and some neat camera tricks in the indoor shots, such as at the ball. I will definetly be on the lookout for more films by Jean-Marc Vallee in the future. My one moment of disappointment when watching the film was that they didn't show Victoria's wedding dress in a wide shot, you only really got to see the top half. A bit of a waste of such an awesome costume, if you ask me. Oh - and I want her dressing gown.
So yeah, 4.5/5 is my rating. Go see it. By far the best costume-drama I have seen in a very long time.
