Stuff. And Movies.

So, as is typical of me, my blogging has failed again. It's pretty lame that I haven't blogged since I watched The Tree of Life.... So a quick update!

I had an awesome Christmas, and made t-shirts for my family.

I went to Carols in the Domain with some amazing people.

Celebrated NYE with the same amazing people.

And went on a camping weekend with - yeah - those same amazing people. Because they're amazing. And we cooked dinner all by ourselves and were cool.

Anyway! Back to the present. I got on here to blog because I've been reading this gigantic book that I got out of the library called Film History: An Introduction. It's incredibly interesting. I'm reading all about how film became a new medium and expanded into an art form, a method of entertainment, and new way to tell stories. I've decided that as I read through the book I'm going to watch the films from 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die that corresponde with the various chapters.

In the first chapter, the main two films mentioned are Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon, 1902), and Uncle Tom's Cabin (1903). It's crazy that they started making such elaborate films that early! Full sets and costumes, stop-motion and special effects. If you are interested in movies but have never seen Le Voyage Dans La Lune by George Méliès, you need to jump on the internet and view it on Youtube right now. It only goes for about 11 minutes, so you have. It really is an astounding piece of work for its time. I'm yet to watch Uncle Tom's Cabin, but I plan on doing that today. They use cool techniques like exposing the film twice to add in extra effects. 


And yeah. Hopefully I'll blog again soon but I don't want to make any promises unless I fail, ha. But I'll be back at some point. 


Oh yeah, and I got a twitter. So if you come on here and I haven't updated the actual blog, you can view my obnoxious tweets (I hate that word) in the sidebar about the Australian Open and the Oscars. Won't that be fun? I'm a loser, I know.

So blogger was down yesterday and I have a few things piled up in my head that I must write about, but now is not the time for it all, as it is nine minutes to midnight. I will blog tomorrow, but I thought I'd let you know that I just got back from Ben Fold's concert at the State Theatre with Hannah, which was totally awesome. Ben Folds was really, really cool and funky on the piano, but I have to say it was Kate Miller-Heidke's voice that blew my mind. I can't believe I have never listened to her before. I was so excited about this new discovery that I bought her CD, and she signed it for me right then and there. Here's proof: 

So yeah it was a pretty exciting night. I'll tell you more about it, and the planet alignment that I woke up at 4:45 a.m on Friday morning for, tomorrow. :)

lost and found

Hello! My this day has gone quickly. It's almost three already.

I plan to try and keep up this writing-big-chunks thing until I leave for my trip so that I can keep on successfully blogging while I'm away. I don't want to stop writing to you all while I am away, and I fear that the thousands of pictures I take will be battling my words for a place on this blog, so I will work my hardest to keep it balanced. Writing now with no pictures should help this.

I'm looking forward to blogging about my trip; I'll try my best to keep you informed on all the things I see and smell and taste and touch and hear, because I'll miss you a lot while I'm gone so if I keep this blog updated as often as possible with the things I do I feel like I'll be taking you readers with me. All 9 of you, or something....

So, I just got back from church and before that I was at Kristen's for a sleepover. The three of us watched The Great Race (fantastically hilarious movie) and talked about a billion things until 3 a.m. I love long, meaningful conversations like that and I find that the later it is the more honest you can be with one another, which is a good thing when you're close friends. By the time we decided it was time to go to sleep I was past the point of being tired and it took me a little while to fall asleep. We woke up at half past 9 - kind of a fail since I then only had twenty minutes to get ready before they came.

Made it to church on time (just). The speaker today was really good, I forget his name but he had the most beautiful deep and he spoke on the parable of the lost son who was found. I love this parable so much because I have heard it many times but each speaker has their own take on it so I get a new insight on it each time.

And yeah not much else to blog about ... looked for sunglasses today but didn't find any. Hope to do some reading or other writing of some kind before I have to leave at four for band practice. Tata for now.

So yesterday was Bethie's 18th birthday. I got her The Young Victoria on dvd, because the silly girl hasn't seen it! If anyone knows Beth, it is her kind of movie. So we're going to watch it together on Friday, and she will love it. I love it. It's such a perfect movie. And so beautiful.

Gorgeous. I love Albert.


On another note, I've been counting down for a while til our USA trip, but I haven't yet mentioned it on my blog.... 9 weeks to go! Super excited!

And yeah, I think we won.

Crazy Kids

 

Here's the video of us crazy kids at the park from Sunday night... being silly after drinking too much sugar! :)

Are you ready, are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?

You know you had an epic sleepover when:

• The person you invited to sleepover brings homemade brownies that her sister made (I love you Beth) 
• You eat the brownies, but then dinner is too far away so you cook a whole pack of wedges and frequently pause the PS3 to eat them.. fighting over the last ones
• You play COD til the screaming gets so loud your parents kick you outside...
• ...so you go to get Slurpees
• You play crazy games of spinning around in circles in the park in the dark... AFTER drinking Slurpees and eating brownies and wedges
• Walking home you pretend that the group of people walking down the street in front of you are actually a group of drooling zombies going to kill you
• You decide not to go home but to keep walking up the hill and rent Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat from Network Video
• You dance up the hill singing Another One Bites the Dust
• You run home and are so psyched you can't eat dinner ... even though it's already 8:30pm
• You videotape yourselves on with nightvision, being idiots in the backyard, playing that crazy spinning game again til one of you nearly falls off the patio onto the carport
• You get so dizzy you stack it and almost put your hand on the mint your brother spat out on the wet grass in the previous round...
• You take cold showers in quick succession, then snuggle on the couch in pjs to watch the movie
• You finally decide you're all hungry at 10pm, so reheat dinner and eat during the movie
• After the movie you play COD til midnight
• You fall asleep in the middle of a conversation.... 

 Oh these two... they're crazy, but that's why I love them. Thanks for an awesome night kiddies.

So as mentioned in the previous post, it was Mom's birthday yesterday.

Max Brenner's was quite fantastical - drinking milkshakes from Alice cups with 'drink me' inscribed upon them, sipping hot chocolate from hug mugs that tasted as if it were straight from the river in the Chocolate Factory, and chocolate-coated waffles with strawberries and ice cream that tasted like edible happiness. Katherine laughed at me because I couldn't stop smiling after I tasted her waffles.

Not only was there good food, but lovely company too. :)

After Brenner's we went home, and Katherine and Jackie joined us later for dinner. The four of us - me, Mom, Jackie and Katherine - sat outside after we ate and snuggled up on the futon with blankets and Starbursts; and Daddy was kind enough to bring out the little TV and the dvd player so we could have a mini mother-daughter movie-night watching I Love Lucy. The chocolate factory episode, of course.

It was the loveliest moment ever: cuddled up nice and warm on our little back patio with three of my most favorite people on earth, while the little TV flickered through the black-and-white images of Lucy and Ethel that made us laugh til we cried.

Happy birthday Mom. :)

Saturday....

Took Juliette to basketball today. She's seven years old. I forgot how many questions seven-year-olds ask: What bus are we taking home? How do we get to the bus? How long is the bus trip? What's your favorite kind of chocolate? When does the bus come? What's that? How long til we get home? Where are we now? What does that say? Did you see that? Why's that sign there? Do we get off at the next stop? What's your favorite colour? Is this our stop? Do we have to walk down that street to get home now?

And so on, and so forth... It was a long morning. But good. And I made money, so then I got to go dress shopping with one of my most favorite people in the world! =D Though I probably drove her crazy trying to find a dress for my formal. I'm terrible at clothes shopping. I don't know what I want, I just know what I don't want.... Sorry Katie! It's okay. We found a dress, finally ... its blue! I like it.

Came home through Newtown ... on Halloween. So weird! We saw a horse-drawn carriage with steampunk-style goths riding it for a funeral. Kinda cool. Also a guy dressed in ragged clothes with fake blood all over his face, staggering down the street like a zombie ... I worked out that I don't really want to be in Newtown when it gets dark. That's when the vampires come out....

Got back and played Raving Rabbids with Katherine, Jono, Dan and Justin. SO MUCH FUN!! They stayed for dinner and we got slurpies after. Now watching Terminator 2 with Katherine and Justin. I love you guys.

Oh, and NaNoWriMo starts in 2 hours!!!!!!!!! Can't wait. ^_^
